Plane belonging to the Oscar-winning composer James Horner crashes




    A plane belonging to the Oscar-winning composer James Horner crashed on Monday in Southern California.
    The crash killed the plane’s only passenger, who has not been identified, but Mr. Horner is thought to have been piloting the plane.

    “It was his plane, and if he wasn’t in it, he would’ve called,” Jay Cooper, a lawyer for Mr. Horner, told The Associated Press on Monday.


    Mr. Horner, 61, is one of Hollywood’s best-known composers. He frequently worked with the director James Cameron, won two Oscars for “Titanic” and composed for “Apollo 13,” “Braveheart” and “Avatar.” He also won four Grammy Awards, including two for the song “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic.”

    The crash occured about 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles. A public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department saidthat the crash was near the Santa Barbara-Ventura County line.

    After the crash, a woman reported to be Mr. Horner’s assistant, Sylvia Patrycja, posted on Facebook: “We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved.”
    Others who knew him began to leave messages on social media:
    Mr. Horner was born on Aug. 14, 1953, in Los Angeles.
