The thriller, which centered on Nigeria’s independence, scooped a total of nine awards at the glamorous event that attracted celebrities and movie practitioners from different parts of the continent.
Aside winning Best Movie and Best Director (for Kunle Afolayan) and Best Actress (Drama) award (for Kehinde Bankole), Tunde Babalola also won Best Writer (drama), Pat Nebo got the award for Best Art Director, while Deola Sagoe and Obijie Oru won Best Costume Designer for their role in October 1. The movie also won Best Make-up Artist (for Sacred Lola Maja), Best Lighting Designer (Lanre Omofaiye) and Best Sound Editor (for Kulanen Ikyo).
Another Nigerian romantic drama, The Meeting, picked five awards at the event, including Best Movie (Comedy) awards for Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo, Best Actress (Comedy) for Rita Dominic and a Best Actor (Comedy) award for Femi Jacobs.
